Performance
With its 195 horsepower, 369 lb-ft of torque, all-wheel drive, and 2.1-L turbo diesel engine, the E250 sedan boasts the most impressive fuel economy at 42 mpg*. Most E-Class models are available with either rear or all-wheel drive, with the exceptions of the E550 coupe and convertible (rear-wheel drive only), E350 wagon (all-wheel drive only), and both E63 AMG® S models (all-wheel drive with more power sent to their rear wheels). All E-class luxury and sporty models come standard with a seven-speed automatic transmission with paddle-shift controls, an automatic stop-start engine function, and electric power steering. Its high-performance variants, the E63 AMG® S models, do not disappoint with their 577 horsepower, 590 lb-ft of torque, acceleration rate of 0-60 mph in 4 seconds, and a top speed of 186 mph. The gasoline engines of the other E-Class models are available in V6 or V8 with an acceleration range of 0-60 mph at 5.0-7.6 seconds.
Interior
The luxurious interior of the 2016 Mercedes E-Class is very conservative yet functional and stylish. All E-Class models come with top-notch wood, metal, and refined plastic trims as well as sharp corners and well-pressed creases to complement the exterior. The seats in all E-Class models, except the AMG® models, are spacious, firm, yet comfortable with notable large rear seating; the AMG® models have snuggly sport seats. Standard on the dashboards in all E-Class models include a Mercedes-brand analog clock, sizeable trunk space, and the COMAND® infotainment interface with a dashboard-mounted screen, a center console-mounted control knob and auxiliary buttons/outlets on the dashboard for USB port, Bluetooth®**, HD radio, and an audio jack.
Features
All 2016 E-Class models come, with a plethora of lavish standard and optional features. In addition to the analog clock and COMAND® system, other standard features in all E-Class models are a sunroof, forward collision warning with automatic braking, dual-zone automatic climate control, and driver drowsiness monitoring. Optional features include a panoramic sunroof, lane departure warning, adaptive cruise control, a rearview camera, push-button start, satellite radio, blind spot monitoring, parallel park assist, navigation, voice recognition for COMAND® system, a harman/kardon or Bang & Olufsen audio system, and a rear-system entertainment system.
Safety
The 2016 Mercedes E-Class has earned the top overall rating of “Good” in several national safety tests. Its models also attained an overall safety rating of 4 out of 5 stars by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, with 4-star rating for frontal crash and two 5-star ratings for side crash and rollover. Safety features available in all E-class models include eleven air bags for driver, driver’s knee, side head, passenger, side, rear head, and rear body; 4-Wheel ABS and disc brakes; electronic stability control; brake assist; daytime running lights; child safety locks; traction control; integrated turn signal mirrors; blind spot monitor; auto-leveling headlights; and lane departure warning.
